Canasta
Patricia Urquiola approached the world of outdoor living starting from the theme of weaving, revisiting and personalising it with an eye to tradition, giving it a decidedly contemporary feel, without falling into nostalgic temptations.
The inspiration for the product comes from the conical shape and the basket-like weave, hence the name Canasta (“basket” in Spanish). The traditional Vienna straw, with its geometric and decorative shape, is revisited; the design has been dilated, enlarged in macro proportions compared to the original, and applied to seats with an enveloping shape and a scenographic appearance.
A linear sofa in the double version with high and low backrest, an armchair with identical variations, a large circular element, a dining chair, a sunbed/chaise longue and a series of side tables, make up the Canasta collection. Ideal by the pool or in the greenery of a garden, like works of “land art” that dialogue with the scenography that welcomes them.
In Canasta, B&B Italia's most sophisticated technologies blend with history and culture to create a blend of ancient and modern. The exclusive hand-crafting of the fiber is done in the Philippines,
home to a centuries-old tradition, where skilled craftsmen have cultivated this art for generations. B&B Italia adds its unmistakable innovative touch to tradition by introducing the processing of polyethylene tape (width 30 mm), a material that guarantees solidity, lightness and inalterability, in two different colors, white and bronze.
The seats are enriched with cushions in fabrics specifically designed for outdoor living, which combine solid and melange colors with striped and floral patterns in shades of beige, purple and brown. A fantastic puzzle of shapes, signs and colors that allow you to adapt Canasta to your personal creativity. The exceptional workmanship to which they are subjected gives the fabrics surprising results of freshness, breathability, softness, pleasantness, as well as extreme resistance to wear.
To complete the proposal, a series of dining tables and side tables with white or black painted steel frames and tops made of porcelain stoneware tiles decorated in shades of white, black, brown, cyclamen and turquoise, which reflect the patterns of the cushions. The result is an unprecedented solution in the field of outdoor furniture, respecting the same quality, aesthetic and comfort standards of all B&B Italia collections.
Canasta '13 is dressed in a new dove-grey polyethylene yarn with a refined natural-effect texture that makes it lighter, more transparent and luminous thanks to a weave that favors the passage of light. New fabrics for sofas, armchairs, small armchairs, accompanied by coffee tables, in harmony with the new shades.
